Final 15 Man Pakistan Squad recently announced for the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England in June. They have reportedly dropped Kamran Akmal and added his younger brother Umar Akmal and former skipper Azhar Ali as well. Kamran was the part of Pakistan and had helped Pakistan achieve 3 ODIs series win against West Indies past month, where he managed to acquire 0, 21 and 47.
Pakistan’s squad was selected by a four-member selection group inclusive of a great former Pakistani player Inzamam Ul Haq. He added Umar back in the squad now after he successfully passed the fitness tests. He was dropped earlier due to lack of fitness against the West Indies.
Former skipper Azhar Ali is also back in the team and the team will be lead by Sarfaraz Ahmed at the ICC Champions Trophy as expected. The squad is reportedly set in accordance with the English conditions to be faced. Ali is said to be returning post his performance records at the English soil.
Sarfaraz Ahmed being a wicket keeper batsman, will lead the squad with some of the most experienced players such as Shoaib Malik and Mohammed Hafeez. 33 year Old Asif Zakir and the mighty left arm spinner Mohammad Asghar are known to be dropped. On the other hand, the yet to be debuted duo – Fakhar Zaman and Fahim Ashraf have made their way into the squad.
Pakistan will play their first warm-up match against Bangladesh on May 27th at the Edgbaston. Another warm up match is to be held at the same venue against Australia.
After the commencement of the main tournament, Pakistan will face India on the first go. Their match is scheduled on 4th June at Edgbaston. The match will be a Daytime match. After facing India, Pakistan is scheduled to face South Africa on 7th June at the same venue. This match will be a combination of Day and Night match.
Finally, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka on 12th June at the Cardiff. This match also will be a Day / Night match.
The performance of Pakistan in these three innings will decide whether they qualify for Play Offs or not.
Group A consists of England, Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Group B consists of India, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka
