Prize Money Increased: This hike in the prize money has been introduced due to the drop in the value of euro as compared to USD. This caused the French Open fall behind other Grand Slams. In 2014, the authorities introduced an increase of 14% and in the next year again raised the amount by 12.5%. This surely brought the French Open close to the US Open and Wimbledon.  But again there is a dip in the value of euro which has pushed the management to offer a larger amount as prize money.

In 2015, the sum total winning amount was €28.03 million. The Men’s and Women’s Singles winner were awarded €1.8 million each while the runners-up in the tournament won €900,000. This year’s increase in the winning amount is not a surprise hike but the management has formulated a four-year plan which started from 2013. Under this plan, every year there will be a minimum increase of 10% in the French Open winning prize money pool. With the prize money reaching €32 million in 2016, the amount offered to the Men’s and Women’s Singles champion would be €2.1 million!
