DD vs KXIP Match Preview:
Delhi lost to Kolkata at the Eden Gardens, where they fumbled in 17.4 over’s and posted a meager total of 98 runs on the board. Right from the beginning wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Only four batsmen managed to score in double figures, including Quinton De Kock 10(17), Sanju Samson 15(13), Pawan Negi, the most expensive buy in the auction process by Delhi for 8 crores, also failed to do something special. Chris Morris also fell for 11(9)ball. The most surprising element was that Carlos Braithwaite who went for 4 6’s against England and brought West Indies their 2nd World T20 title, was dismissed for 6(4) by Piyush Chawla. The Robin Uthappa was the only player to be dismissed, who was bowled by Amit Mishra for 35(33).
Walking in the footsteps of Delhi, Punjab, too, lost its opening fixture to Gujarat, after a decent total of 161/6. But, they got off to a quick and flying start, as they had 54 runs in the 6 over’s on the power play, and something to show off. In the 5th over, Vohra on 8 runs was dropped by Bravo, and fully utilizing the opportunity, the right-hand batsmen, before departing scored 38(23) with an impressive strike rate of 165.22. Later in the 11th over, Sir Jadeja dismissed his former Chennai teammate Murali Vijay, who was well set on 42(34). Vijay scored 5 4’s and 1 6’s in his innings. And all of a sudden, the tide turned towards Gujarat, and as soon as Vijay departed, the middle order collapsed. David miller and Glenn Maxwell couldn’t provide the momentum which the team expects from them, and made their way back after being cheaply dismissed for 15(10) and 2(4) respectively.
However, it was some quick-fire shots from Wriddhiman Saha 20(25) and Marcus Stoinis 33 (22) and helped kings to sail past the 160mark. The former Chennai bowler Dwayne Bravo played the role of a spoilsport for the Punjab and claimed 4 crucial of wickets of David Miller, Maxwell, Saha and Marcus Stoinis, for just 22 runs with an economy of 5.5 r.p.o. For Punjab, Sandeep Sharma, Mitchell Johnson, Marcus Stoinis and Pardeep Sahu claimed one wicket each. Meanwhile, Johnson and Sahu proved to be the most expensive bowlers who shelled out 35 runs from the only 1 over they bowled.
DD vs KXIP Match Prediction:
Well, both the teams have had a rollercoaster ride in the IPL so far. As Delhi have had made to the semifinals of the tournament two times, under Sehwag’s captaincy, while, Punjab was the runners up in 2014. So Punjab will have an edge over Delhi in tomorrow’s game because of the depth in the batting line-up, likes Maxwell, Miller and Stoinis, and their bowling unit. While, Delhi need to put their best foot forward to do something special, since it doesn’t have much strength.
