With the Arsene Wenger led the team out of every possible trophy that they can play for, and even the League title a distant dream; the pressure is surmounting over the Frenchman to give results. Two FA cups in last two seasons and European qualifications consistently is not something that will satisfy the Emirates fans.
Arsenal currently has played a match less than both the teams above them. With a win over Hornets, the Gunners can reduce the point difference by three points and take revenge of FA cup exit, where the Hornets proceeding forward in the cup tournament. The league game is supposed to be a tactical contest with Flores already having an upper hand over Wenger. A lot of key players are still in the medics room for Arsenal that has already led to consecutive losses by Manchester United and Swansea City a few match days before. The fixture is not going to be a walkover for Arsenal, whereas players coming back from international duty must be conditioned well to aim for the win.
The Hornets have had defeated Arsenal recently in the cup competition and have cut short their hopes of a hat-trick of FA cup victories. With the guidance of Flores and talismans in Troy Deeney and Idion Ighalo, Watford has been a tough team to beat and their league position do not do justice to the performances that they have given day in and day out. Having been beaten in the reverse league fixture by three goals to nil, the Hornets will most likely aim to replicate their cup success over the Gunners in the league.
TEAM FORMATION & LINE-UP:
Arsenal : 4-2-3-1
Expected Lineups: David Ospina, Hector Bellerin, Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal, Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi, Danny Welbeck. Subs: Gabriel Paulista, Aaron Ramsey, Keiren Gibbs, Matt Macey, Joel Campbell, Theo Walcott, Oliver Giroud
Since returning from injury, Danny Welbeck has provided much-needed pace along with the physicality to the Arsenal attack. With a late stoppage time goal against the surprise leaders of this season, he has effectively replaced Giroud as the Arsenal frontmen. With a goal against Everton in the last fixture, Arsene Wenger is likely to pick the fresh Englishmen against Watford. Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi also makes it into the playing XI with some commendable performances over the recent weeks. The temperament of Elneny in defense along with attacking creativity of Iwobi on the flanks could well turn out to be the X-factor for the final push in the business end of the league.
Expected Line-up: Gomes, Nyom, Sebastian Prodl, Miguel Britos, Nathan Ake, Amrabat, Valon Behrami, Mario Suarez, Etienne Capoue, Idion Ighalo, Troy Deeney. Subs: Craig Cathcart, Ben Watson, Pantilimon,Jurado , Ikechi Anya, Almen Abdi, Guedioura.
Flores is unlikely to alter his formation against the Gunners, and will look towards the skipper Troy Deeney and his partner in crime Idion Ighalo to produce goals against the Arsenal defense. The Hornets need to stay focus and balance the attacking flair with equally resilient defense if they are to take any points from the Fixture.
With a title to fight for and revenge in mind, Arsenal will be the more motivated team as they seek to gain three points to cut down the lead at the top and defeat the team that kicked them out of FA Cup competition. The Gunners are the favorites coming into the fixture; but the Hornets are no easy walkover team with performers all around pitch. With a goal keeper like Gomes to a finisher like Ighalo upfront and a skipper as a tormenter in chief Troy Deeney, it is unlikely that Arsenal will have it easy to earn 3points. On the best of days, this match promises to be a mouth watering contest for the neutrals; and an upset should be on the cards of supporters of either teams. The underdogs might just put an end to the title dream of Gunners.
